Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#1)

What is the definitive list of retiring Labour MPs? Here is a start...

John Austin
John Battle
Michael Clapham
Frank Cook
Ann Cryer
John Cummings
William Etherington
Neil Gerrard
John Grogan
Brian Iddon
Lynne Jones
David Lepper
Bob Marshall-Andrews
Doug Naysmith
Clare Short
Alan Simpson
Gavin Strang
David Taylor
Des Turner
Bob Wareing

Did I hear Ian Gibson is retiring?

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#3)

A vast exodus of left MPs. 10 Campaign Groupers (not including Wareing) and others of a more rebellious nature.

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#5)

And how many have completed selections...and what knowledge do we have on the politics of the PPCs?

I know Lillian Greenwood and Chuka Umunna (add Keith Hill to the list) are Compass members and Janet Oosthuysen is Campaign Group. Stephen Twigg is a Progress member.

Any others?

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#15)

Other than those you listed and the 4 (Christine MacCafferty, John Prescott, Richard Caborn  and Rudi Vis) mentioned in the other comments, the following are retiring too: Colin Challen, Keith Hill, Janet Dean, Rosemary McKenna, Chris Mullin, Bill Olner, Ken Purchase, John Reid, Mohammed Sarwar, Alan Williams and Tony Wright.

Overall, I think 33 Labour MPs won't stand at next GE + Clare Short (who is retiring but she's not Lab anymore)+ Wareing (who has left the party after being deselected) + Frank Cook (deselected) + Ian Stewart and Eddy O'Hara (who lost selection battles against other sitting MPs after boundary changes and are now seatless)

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#2)

And Mark Todd.

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#4)

Christine MacCafferty
John Prescott
Richard Caborn

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#6)

I liked Ann, as she was a notable speaker on domestic abuse.

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#7)

Good woman is Ann.

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#8)

And Rudi Vis?

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#9)

Sad to hear.  Ann's been an excellent MP.

If Keighley isn't AWS or BME (though there's a strong case for it being one or both of those) I might just put my hat in the ring though...

Probably shouldn't have said that!

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#10)

Cllr Susan Press of Hebden Bridge fame has announced she will be sending in a CV....

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#11)

Has she announced whether she is on the Labour Party Parliamentary Panel. I am sure her fame precedes her to Labour HQ.

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#12)

Alex, I think you over-estimate my "fame." As I  am a Labour Party member of 32 years' standing ,  a  local politician and campaigner with extensive knowledge of the area  I have every right to send in a CV.Probably more than most.....

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#13)

I absolutely do not overestimate your fame eveybody knows who you are or at least your pseudonym.

You have the right but if you are not on the panel now it will have to go to the NEC.

Re: Ann Cryer to step down (#14)

I'm well aware of that.I'm also well aware left candidates do not get an easy road  and I am  also a realist. But if none of us try then none of us will get anywhere at all. So I hope it's NOT an AWS and that people like Duncan and others I know in  West Yorkshire   can   have a go..........
